Watershed Coronavirus (COVID-19) Statement

 In Chronology, Elgin

It’s impossible to ignore the fact that the coronavirus (COVID19) is daily dominating the headlines and social media feeds. Nearly all major sports are now suspended, store shelves have been emptied of basic cleaning supplies, and municipalities are placing limitations on public gatherings of all types. Many have started to ask “what will our response be here at Watershed Church?”

At this time we will continue with our normal church schedule of services and activities which includes a switch to two Sunday morning services at 9 & 11 AM starting April 5th.

Scripture often exhorts believers to exercise FAITH and to exercise WISDOM and I believe both of these are critical as we respond to the coronavirus and the impacts surrounding it. First, we will exercise FAITH and we will not allow fear to overtake our thoughts and feelings resulting in panic. Second, we will use WISDOM and take proper precautions.

Our kids ministry team has already started reviewing and enhancing their already thorough cleaning procedures for each classroom which includes sanitizing all surfaces and toys after every service. We will continue to keep our facility as clean and sanitary as possible including daily cleaning of all touch points (door handles, faucets, etc.) and strongly advise everyone to exercise normal health precautions that should be taken regardless of the news headlines or time of year such as handwashing, use of sanitizer, etc.

If you or your family are experiencing symptoms of illness, we do ask you remain at home and catch the podcast which goes live after service ends.

Let’s all be praying for those affected by coronavirus. Below are a couple of Scriptures I believe we would all do well to meditate on and even memorize as we aim to remain unshakeable in a turbulent world.

Psalm 91:2-3 –  This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease.

Isaiah 26:3 – You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you

Joshua 1:9 – Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
