Coronavirus Update June 2nd

 In Chronology, Elgin

Hi Watershed Family,

Throughout the past 12 weeks, Noeleen and I have been incredibly proud of how our church family has not only stayed connected during this time, but also actively pursued serving each other and our community. As we’ve been discussing starting to regather again both with church leadership and local authorities, the spiritual and physical health of our congregation and community have been at the very top of our priorities.

As I announced on Sunday, we do believe the time has come for those who would like to return to gathering in person to do so starting this Sunday, June 7. We’ve been reviewing the latest Illinois Dept. of Public Health and CDC guidelines regarding worship services, and we believe we can create an environment where those who want to regather for worship in-person can do so safely. We advise those in our church family who are at higher risk for severe illness to please continue to worship with us online for a season. We will continue to provide quality online content for you and for those who would prefer to pray and worship at home.

Here are a few major changes to note for regathering for worship. You can see the entire list of health and safety protocols here.

Reservation System
For at the least the month of June and possible longer we are implementing a reservation system for Sunday morning worship to assure we don’t exceed a capacity where we can safely distance those in attendance. Reservations will open one week prior to Sunday service. If the main worship center fills up we will open reservations for an overflow room in the Kid’s Church area. You can reserve your spot for this Sunday here. Bookmark this link to reserve your spot each week, as the link will stay the same each week.

There will be NO children’s ministry
We do not feel it’s wise to open our children’s ministry at this time. We’ll reevaluate this mid-summer and work towards a timeline for reopening children’s ministry. However, kids are more than welcome to attend and be with their parents in the worship center. Our kid’s ministry team will be providing a few activity sheets each week with a pack of sealed crayons for kids to work on during the message. We would encourage parents to bring their own notebook or clipboard as a backing for kids to place the sheets on.

It will be encouraged that those attending in person wear masks when moving about the building, using the restroom or anywhere you’ll be interacting closely with other church attenders. Once seated, we plan to have seats spaced accordingly where masks will not be needed. However, those who wish to wear them may certainly do so and we will have masks available at the entrance. Let’s by no means let “masks” become an issue that divides us a church family.

The cafe will not be open for the near future and access will not be allowed. Having this area of the building closed allows us to limit contact points and areas needing sanitizing. Any fellowship and socialization will be encouraged to take place outside after service is over (weather permitting).

We ask that everyone use the provided hand sanitizer when they enter the building. Additionally, we’ll be having a team that sanitizes all surfaces and touch points both before and after each service. If this is something you could help with please let Christopher ( know ASAP.

Here is the list of guidelines we’ll be following through at least the end of June.

We will continue to monitor this situation and reevaluate our timeline on a regular basis. We are prepared to make adjustments as needed should things change. We look forward to being with you again as soon as possible.
